Morning Matcha Smoothie

Good morning you beautiful Souls!!

Now that it's HOT outside, I have an amazing morning breakfast smoothie (or afternoon snack) to share and it's packed full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber AND will give you a wonderful buzz that will last all day without the crash.  It's your breakfast and caffeine all in one and great for on the go!

If you’ve never had matcha before, it has this smooth earthy taste to it and contains a compound called L-theanine that’s supposed to exert a calming effect, coupled with increased alertness.  I personally prefer matcha better than coffee because it doesn’t gives me the jitters or the crash.  Win, win!!  Make sure you also get a high quality matcha powder which will be a bright green color.

For the rest of the ingredients: I like to use Collagen hydrolysate as my protein.  This protein is absorbed quickly by your body, helps regulate the body's metabolism, builds connective tissue in hair, skin, and nails and chalk full of amino acids.  For the liquid I prefer Almond milk or coconut milk.  Do not buy any almond milk.  I recommend Califica Farms because it’s soy-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, carrageenan-free, non-GMO.  I also prefer coconut milk in a can that is BPA-free and has organic coconut milk as the ONLY ingredient!  My leafy veggie of choice is kale but I like to mix it up once in awhile and add spinach.  You can also play around with the fruit.  I enjoy thick smoothies, so I will add banana and a half of avocado.  Try it and let me know what you think?!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup of almond milk (or coconut milk), add more or less as desired thickness

1 frozen banana

½ ripe avocado (optional, but gives your smoothie a wonderful creamy taste and good fat which keeps you full!)

1 cup packed kale (or spinach)

1 heaping tablespoon collagen protein (I like Great Lakes, green canister)

1 teaspoon green matcha tea

Blend everything in a high speed blender until smooth!  A NutriBullet or Ninja individual blenders work best.  Enjoy!
